S.A.F.E. Project US holds community-based coordination events in Delaware that bring together community leaders, local law enforcement, medical personnel, educators and families that are affected by the opioid crisis. Families who have lost children, spouses or partners who have lost loved ones, as well as friends and supporters are encouraged to attend our community events to add their perspective and insight to help rid their community of the opioid epidemic.

The state of Delaware has filed a lawsuit against corporations for their part in a national epidemic. According to the suit, the state will sue numerous companies involved in manufacturing, distributing and selling prescription opioid painkillers.

► *In 2016, there were 154 opioid-related overdose deaths­­­ in Delaware—a rate of 16.9 deaths per 100,000 persons

► *In 2015, providers in Delaware wrote 768,974 prescriptions for opioid pain relievers, or 80 prescriptions for every 100 persons. 

► *The incidence of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) increased 56 percent, from 11.9 cases per 1,000 births in 2010 to 18.5 cases per 1,000 births in 2013.
