CONNECT is a grassroots, non-profit community advocacy organization bringing together Summit County residents who are loved ones, friends, and colleagues of people struggling with mental health challenges. We are also mental health service providers in Summit County. CONNECT believes that mental health is a community concern and not solely an individual responsibility. Coming together we can more effectively raise our voices against the stigma and isolation of mental illness and advocate for more comprehensive and accessible mental health services throughout Summit County.
As part of its Mental Health Awareness Month in May 2018, CONNECT is proud to host Admiral and Mary Winnefeld for a sensitive discussion about the loss of their 19-year old son Jonathan to an opiate overdose in September 2017, their experience with the U.S. insurance system, limited addiction-care resources, and the creation of their new not-for-profit SAFE Project (Stop the Addiction Fatality Epidemic), which seeks to eradicate opioid addiction through research, awareness campaigns, and a push to expand treatment resources in the U.S.
