Upcoming National Virtual Training
What is I-FPRS?
SAFE Project’s Integrated-Forensic Peer Recovery Specialist Training Program equips peer-based organizations and Certified Peer Recovery Specialists with the tools and competencies to support returning citizens and individuals involved in the criminal legal system. Designed by practitioners with deep experience in behavioral health, reentry, and peer-led recovery, the training emphasizes connection across systems, the power of recovery capital, and the integrity of blending lived experience with ethical practice.
This is a four day training. Each day focuses on a different domain:
Domain 1
Understanding and Working in the System
Domain 2
Impacts of
the System
Domain 3
Recovery, Reentry,
and Peer Practice
Domain 4
Advocacy
and Ethics
There are two components to SAFE Project’s I-FPRS:
1. National Participant Trainings for Individuals:
We’re bringing together Certified Peer Recovery Specialists from across the nation to equip them with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to support individuals with substance use disorders who are navigating the cross-section of behavioral health and criminal legal settings. National Participant Trainings for Individuals are offered once per quarter in a virtual format.
Target Audience:
- CPRS who currently work or plan to work with individuals impacted by the criminal legal system.
Cost:
- $350 per participant
- Cost includes 4 days of training and supplemental materials.
- We encourage interested participants to reach out to their employer regarding the potential use of professional development funding.
2. State or Organization-Specific Trainings:
State or organization-specific trainings are similar to our National Participant Trainings for Individuals, but are custom-designed for your state or organization. We adapt the training to include a profile of a state’s prison and jail populations, criminal legal system, and the unique disparities affecting state populations. This customized version of I-FPRS equips Certified Peer Recovery Specialists with state-specific information that is essential to building trust and advocating for the individuals they serve. The format can be in-person or virtual, depending on your organizational/state preferences.
Target Audience:
- Organizations with peer workforces serving individuals impacted by the criminal legal system
- Correctional, reentry, probation, or parole programs that employ or partner with peers
- Treatment, recovery, or other problem-solving court teams that include peer professionals
- Behavioral health, recovery community, harm reduction, or recovery housing organizations that employ peers
Cost:
- Cost varies based on the number of participants, training format, travel requirements, and other customization needs. Pricing is determined in consultation with each organization or state entity.
Training Highlights and Objectives:
- Trauma-informed and evidence-based content
- Interactive case studies, group exercises, and applied skill building
- Practical tools to help peers navigate legal, clinical, and community systems
- Strengthened understanding of systemic factors contributing to incarceration, inequity, and recovery barriers
- Improved reentry and recovery outcomes for justice-involved individuals
- Stronger collaboration across correctional, treatment, and community systems
Certification & Reciprocity
Completion of I-FPRS provides 24 training hours that may be eligible for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in the following areas, subject to state-specific requirements:
- 6 hours in mentoring and education
- 6 hours in recovery and wellness

The I-FPRS training is accredited through the Florida Certification Board and is authorized to offer CEUs to CPRS from Florida, Oregon, Illinois, Texas, Michigan, Vermont, and New York.
