Prevention Perspectives:
The Intersection of Prevention and Grief

Wednesday, July 22, 2026

Guest Speaker:
Sarah Behm Guillen, MBA, MA, PPS
Director, Eluna Resource Center

Grief and substance misuse can be deeply connected, yet grief is often overlooked within prevention efforts. This webinar explores how experiences of loss — including ambiguous grief, anticipatory grief, and substance-related grief — can shape emotional health, coping behaviors, and risk pathways for youth, families, and communities impacted by addiction. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how unresolved grief and stigma linked to it can increase vulnerability to substance misuse, while also learning how grief-informed approaches can serve as a powerful form of prevention.

Through a prevention-centered lens, this session will highlight practical ways to strengthen protective factors, foster resilience, and support healing through connection, compassion, and informed intervention. Participants will leave with resources to help integrate grief-informed prevention practices into their work with youth, families, schools, and communities.
