A strategic planning program for collegiate staff and faculty who want to improve recovery support, prevention, and harm reduction services on their campuses.
Summer Series
Have a project you want to tackle, but need additional support? Looking for a program to keep you on track while students are away? The SAFE Campuses Summer Series can provide individual technical assistance, cohort-based learning, and structure for you to take on a campus need.
This 8-week virtual program is for university staff who want to improve their substance use, recovery, and harm reduction services and capacity on their campus. Applicants from all levels of familiarity of collegiate recovery, harm reduction, and higher education are welcome. The Summer Series includes a number of delivery methods, from live discussions to asynchronous content engagement. The course material is subject to change based on cohort needs, but the core content includes: substance use paradigms, asset mapping, data tracking, strategic planning, advocacy practice, and more! Participants should expect to dedicate approximately 3 hours per week to this program.
Applications for the next Summer Series cohort will open next spring. Join our newsletter to stay up-to-date and get notified when we are selecting our 2027 cohort!
Participants in the Summer Series will:
- Develop an action plan to increase recovery support, harm reduction services, or stigma reduction on their campus through problem identification, goal setting, progress monitoring, and assessment planning.
- Engage and network with colleagues & key stakeholders in the collegiate substance use and recovery fields.
- Increase awareness of helpful resources and emerging practices in collegiate mental health and substance use services.
This course culminates in a strategic plan to tackle an impact project on a participant’s campus. Past participants have used the Summer Series to build their approach to things ranging from a one-time event, policy creation, training materials, or even a five-year plan to establish a Collegiate Recovery Program!

“The Summer Series was such a unique experience, and it constantly surprised me. I genuinely feel as though I am significantly better prepared to serve my students after the course, and being so new to this field, that means the world to me.”
