Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is TA?
TA stands for Technical Assistance. It is the consultation, training, and practical support we provide to campuses as they create or grow initiatives across the substance use continuum. Our goal is to help you turn ideas into sustainable efforts that meet student needs.
Who can request TA?
Most often, we facilitate TA meetings with campus professionals who oversee their campus’s alcohol and drug prevention, education, harm reduction, and/or recovery efforts. Nevertheless, our team also conducts TA with professionals and students who are curious about how to make an impact in these areas on their campus–even if it is not a part of their direct role.
What topics can I bring a Technical Assistance meeting?
- TA meetings can be as simple as a quick call to ask a few questions about resources or best practices, or they can involve ongoing support for developing a project or initiative! Common topics include program development and strategic planning, naloxone distribution efforts, building or reviewing recovery allyship training, anti-stigma initiatives, and professional development or training.
- You’re also welcome to bring early-stage ideas! If you’re not sure where to start with a prevention, harm reduction, or recovery effort, we’re here to help you think through next steps. As former campus professionals, our team understands the unique intersection of the substance use, recovery, and student affairs fields. TA meetings can be a space to talk through challenges you’re facing on your campus with colleagues who understand how isolating this work can sometimes feel.
- Some folks schedule a TA hoping to learn more about our trainings and resources!
What can I expect in a TA meeting?
A TA meeting is largely guided by your needs. If this is your first meeting with SAFE Project, you can expect to spend some time discussing your institution, role, current projects, and goals. The Campuses team strives to provide solutions in collaboration with your professional expertise, drawing on our resources, tools, network, and national insights.
I’m a student. What does TA look like for me?
Hoping to start or grow a student organization? Ready to bring a passion project to life on campus? Interested in professional development at the intersection of substance use and higher education? Our team can meet with you to talk through your ideas, answer questions, and help you think strategically about how your goals connect with existing campus efforts and student leadership opportunities.
