Dedicated to connecting veterans, active duty service members and their families, to the resources they need to combat substance use disorder.

SAFE Veterans programs are dedicated to connecting ALL VETERANS, active-duty service members, and their families to the resources they need to combat substance use disorder through several different programs.

Edward Schloeman is a retired Chief Master Sergeant, (E-9) from the NY Air National Guard and a Service-Disabled Marine Vietnam Veteran. Presently, Ed is CEO of Fidelis Services Group, a SDVOB, and Chairman of Operation Warrior Shield, a NFP which supports Veterans and First Responders in “healing their hidden wounds” (PTSD). Ed has been involved with this work since 2010 and is widely recognized for bringing help to tens of thousands of those who are affected by the epidemic of PTSD. He has received many awards for his accomplishments including, the David Lynch Foundation, Doris Day Animal Foundation, NYPD, NYC Dept. of Veterans Services, WABC, NYC Parks Dept. Ed is most proud of Mayor Adams’ NYC Citation Award which he received in 2023.
Ed also initiated a Veteran-First Responder Companion Dog program to help match Recovery Dogs to individuals who have emotional issues due to their stressful work.
Ed’s career has been with companies such as NYNEX (Verizon), Telco Systems, and other telecommunication companies and received many business awards for his leadership skills and accomplishments—Kings of Kings County Hall of Fame, Lifetime Achievement Award from Brooklyn Rotary Club, Proclamations from 3 Borough Presidents, NYC Council and NY State Senate Awards.
He holds Life Memberships in Enlisted Association of The NY National Guard, Enlisted Association of the United States, Marine Corps League, Vietnam Veterans of America, and membership with Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and Iwo Jima Association. He is an appointee to the Brooklyn Community Board 7.
Some of his military decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, both US Air Force Commendation and Achievement Medals, National Defense, Marine Corps and Armed Forces Expedition Medals, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Civil Action & Cross of Gallantry Medals, and NY State Commendation Medal.
Ed is married to Judith Ann for 61 years and they have 3 children; CPA Catherine, USAF Ret. Lt. Colonel Ed Jr. and NYPD Ret. Detective Lt. Commander Robert, followed by their 8 grandchildren.

What are these meetings?

The Veterans Virtual Group meets weekly on Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m eastern. The group is a nationwide virtual peer-support opportunity to meet with peers and enjoy comradery in a safe space so that you can share your recovery journey. Participants meet to address challenges, share in successes, and provide each other valuable resources.

This informal meeting is conducted by a licensed clinician who has both personal and professional experience with the military and veteran community.

What should I expect during these meetings?

  • Community-building activity with introductions and an ice breaker
  • 10-15 minute educational and information presentation on the designated topic
  • Remainder of the meeting time is used for open discussion through guided questions, storytelling, or crowdsourcing relevant resources
  • We end with a takeaway/summary slide and a one-word checkout
