Recovery Month: Celebrate and Support!
National Recovery Month is more than a celebration; it is a call to action. Beyond awareness and stigma reduction, Recovery Month calls on all of us to take action by advancing health equity, promoting public health, and addressing the social and structural barriers that affect recovery.
Every September is a powerful tribute to the strength and resilience of those impacted by addiction. It’s a time to highlight the incredible victories of individuals in recovery, amplify their voices, and champion the diverse, holistic pathways that make healing possible.
Recovery is:
A process of change in which a person improves their health and wellness, lives a self-directed life, and strives to reach their full potential. It is an individualized, intentional, dynamic, and relational process. The pathway that an individual chooses is often based on their values, culture, socioeconomic status, and psychological and behavioral needs.

Defining Recovery
SAFE Project’s Director of Recovery, Sydney Chiefetz, sat down with partners and friends of SAFE Project to capture honest and organic conversations that highlight the many pathways, strengths, wisdom, and challenges of recovery. The answer? It looks different for everyone.
For some, recovery means abstinence. For others, it’s moderation, harm reduction, medication-assisted treatment, or a blend of several approaches. There’s no single right way to heal, and no timeline in doing so. There will be good days and challenging days, forward steps and moments of pause. All of which make up a unique recovery journey. SAFE Project empowers individuals to use or create a pathway that will work best for them. Follow us on our social media platforms for more of our “Recovery Wisdom””” video campaign.
